Castle Mews. There were two wooden shops, one of which was built around 1925 by Henry THOMAS, the owner of Nunnery House. One was rented by tailors Richard Hornsey and his son Richard, who was known as Eric. They made good quality country clothes and they, like the Waudby tailors, sat cross-legged on a raised platform to do their sewing. The second wooden building, was built around 1930 and was occupied by Henry (Harry THOMAS and his wife Florence LONG. They sold fish and chips. Harry also had a barbers shop at the rear for a short time.
The News Shop (newsagent) was taken over in 1930 by Harry THOMAS and his wife Florence but the chimney-back collapsed and they moved their business to the wooden buildings near Church Hill.
