Headstone: (No longer there) 1881 it read A Faithful Servant for 41 years under the Barnard Family of Cave Castle
Note: Cave Castle was bought by the Barnard family in 1748 and the house remained in the family until 1925. It is said that John Washington (Great Grandfather of George Washington – 1st President of the United States lived on the Cave Castle Estate prior to emigrating to America. Towards the end of the World War II, Cave Castle was used as an Officers Mess and barracks built in the grounds housed prisoners of war.
